in the summer holidays I went to rodins sculpture exhibition. he worked mostly around the turn of the 20th century and had a huge infuence on the way sculpting was done has he broke all the traditional rules of this process. He only worked the human body but had a wide variety of scales ranging fro lots of miniature hands to massive sculptures of up to 5 or 6 full sized men. This was one of the firs major exhibitions to really focus on showing to process of his work using lots of plaster even though he was most famous for his bronze and marble pieces. Even though the actual technique is vey different to photography I learn a lot about having a process as he repeated his moulds and plaster casts lots and lots of times even if it was good he went back and repeated. He also experimented with fragmentation and putting different casts together in different ways which partly links to one of my themes which is layers.
Here are 3 different casts of the same woman where rodinhas gone back and repeated the process regardless of the result to see of there would be a different outcome. I think this is an important thiing i can apply to my work as you dont know how changeing a small thing or a happy accident will change the outcome of your work
"JR: CHRONICLES", SAATCHI GALLERY
We went on a school trip to the Saatchi gallery to look at the extensive work of JR and all his projects from the very early 2000s to now. Below I have show his early work from before he became a celebrated and professional photographer as it is my favourite. I like the fact he was doing so much wit so little resources and used lots of people from his community and around in public. In the first set of images he has taken photos of his and his friends rafitti printed it out big then pasted it up onto walls around Paris and framed it using his graffiti. he said " I own the largest gallery of the world - the walls of the city!". his next project which is the one below was when he became more established and had more money where he put
